just a few (easy) things if you don't mind.
- 'der Umlaut' is the object in the sentence 'Ich mag den Umlaut.' The object takes the accusative case, so it's 'den Umlaut'. 'der Umlaut' would be the nominative. The plural would be 'die Umlaute', so if you want to use plural it's 'Ich mag die Umlaute.
- 'to look better': the right translation is 'besser aussehen'. If you use the verb 'aussehen' (infinitive) it is split in two parts (the appropriate form of 'sehen' and 'aus' which comes after that). Have a look:
Ich sehe (besser) aus.
Du siehst (besser) aus.
Er/Sie/Es sieht (besser) aus.
Wir sehen (besser) aus.
Ihr seht (besser) aus.
Sie sehen (besser) aus.
So your sentence is: Es sieht viel besser aus, als oe oder ue.
The same in your last sentence: 'Das gefällt mir' sieht viel besser aus. (The first part is a quote, so you need quotation marks. Otherwise the sentence is confusing)

It is good German to always use an umlaut (ä,ö,ü) in every word where one is needed instead of the other forms. You only use the other ones (ae,oe,ue) when you have to fill out forms where you cannot use the regular umlauts (e.g. on my credit card, my name is spellt with oe) or also for internet and mail addresses.
